DVB-S2 card/usb (recommendations please) or wetek play ?

Featured Replies

hi:)

looking to get tv headend & openelec setup potentially on my unraid server or using a wetek play box, then if all goes well retire my humax pvr.

does anyone have any recommendations of dvb-s2 cards or dongles that are known to work well with unraid? my other option is to run it from a wetek play box and use the unraid server as storage only, any positives or negatives to doing this?

any other advice welcome, many thanks:)

I know from experience that TBS cards work, but can in some hardware combinations have a lot of continuity errors in combination with tvheadend. Don't know if it has been fixed in later drivers, but the media build guy CHBMB might chime in with his thoughts.

No sure about how will it working in unraid, but the Genpix Skywalker is a great piece of hardware. I bought mine in 03 and use it with DVBlink for DVBDream and WMC.

I have a Digital Devices Octopus PCIe card installed in my unRAID with 6x tuners hanging off it (2x DVB-S2 and 1x DVB-T).

I have the card passed through to a Windows7 VM running ArgusTV. This saves recordings to the unRAID array and uses a dedicated SSD for timeshifting. Clients access liveTV and recordings through Kodi.

It all works perfectly. I really like the Octopus solution as you can have up to 8x mixed tuners in a single PCIe x1 slot.
