New parity drive errors

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Indecently upgraded to version 6 an added a a 3TB parity drive. I got my hands on a 4TB purple drive so I wanted to install it as my parity drive.  So I decided to run a parity check before I swapped it out.  Ran check last night and this morning t has over 3k writes and errors.  All other drives have minimal writes and no errors. Is this something I shou be concerned about?

Thanks in advance

Ok since I posted this topic, errors and writes have increased to 38K. This doesn't sound  good to me.

Errors are never good, go to tools > diagnostics and attach zip.

ok here is the diagnostic zip.  now the errors are over 61K

tried to up load. File size too big @ 295K

What now?

thank you for your help

Parity still being checked. Over 100k errors and writes. What log do I need to post?

If you have a dropbox or similar account you can post a link to the diagnostics.zip, if not post all the SMART reports and the syslog.txt

Thanks for the reply. I decided to go ahead and replace the parity drive with the 4TB drive.

I did the following. Installed drive and performed the extended SMART test. Then I assigned drive to parity and and started the array. Is that the correct procedure? Or am I missig something?

Thanks in advance?

Looks like you did the correct procedure, a parity sync should have started when you started the array, when it finishes it’s a good idea to do a parity check to confirm all is ok.

In the future, when adding/replacing a disk, and instead of the long SMART test you may want to use the preclear plugin, considered a better way of stress testing a new disk.
