January 29, 201610 yr This my #1- Media server listed below.. I start this server every day and shut down a 1:00am. This is the first real issue since 2009..or 2010. Time goes by. For the past week 2 or 3 times that I would start it, it would not fully boot. Shutting down and restarting worked. Today No matter how many times I shut down and restart I can't get it to fully boot. I connected a monitor to it and it gets to "Hardware Monitor" and that's it. I get 2 beeps but not the 3rd single beep. Under Hardware Monitor I get: CPU TEMP: 22C CPU Fan: 3214 System Fan1: 1824 CPU Voltage: 1.344 Chip Voltage: 1.168 +3.30 V 3.392v +12V 12.544v DDRV: 1.968 HT V: 1.168 5USB: 4.999 Some of those look normal to me but not sure about Chip V, CPU V, DDRV and HT V. I tried checking the Flash Drive via Disk Utility(Mac) and it looks normal. Also tried a different Flash Drive with the same results. Can't telnet in and I don't see anything in my router that would relate to that server. In BIOS under IDE Configuration and SATA Devices I see SATA 1 & 3 Not Detected SATA 2,4,5,6 say Hard Drive. Not sure where to go from here since PC hardware is still a little alien to me.
January 29, 201610 yr Author Ok, just checked under BOOT in Bios and noticed the Flash Drive was listed #5 with hard drives in the 1st 4 positions. Not sure what is going on, I'm leaning towards the battery but not sure if that would cause this to happen, since the time and date are correct. I did manage to reboot ok after the fix.
January 31, 201610 yr Author Problems still continue.. Everything from some to most of my video files missing and unmenu menus and pages not formated. UnRaid menu works and disks and shares show when it will boot to UnRaid. So tonight I took the server apart and first checked the battery, and as I suspected, do to it's age, it was barely alive. I replaced it and reset the BIOS to default then made my changes. Restarted a few times and all seems to be good. Currently running on v6.1.3 so I can pull diagnostics if I have issues but due to the Horse Power 6 needs I will need to revert to V5.0.4 in a day or two. I also checked the power supply with my Rosewill PSU checker, I knew I bought that for a reason, and while I was at it I pulled and cleaned all the fans and CPU heat sink. It's amazing how much better the video streaming off the server looks after a good cleaning So time will tell if that, the battery, was the issue with the flakey behavior.
January 31, 201610 yr Author Ok, still stopping at Hardware Monitor after is sits for a period.. Looks like initial startup voltages are .01 over the preset over voltage monitor.. Probably time to replace the PSU, which I can put in my new build... The other flakey behavior seems to be resolved with the battery replacement.
January 31, 201610 yr Russ, you mentioned unmenu packages... Are you running V5 or V6? Didn't think unmenu was V6 compatible, but I may be wrong...
January 31, 201610 yr Author I was running V5 with unMenu when I had that problem. My CPU is a bit taxed with v6 with "My Normal" usage but switched to V6 for testing after. Is it possible that the MB could have an issue with on board regulators for those lower voltages? Or is it most likely the Power supply?
