garycase Posted February 7, 2016 Share Posted February 7, 2016 ... Would these memory be OK for this MB as well ? Looks fine to me -- registered DDR3 modules is just what you need. Quote Link to comment
peter_sm Posted February 7, 2016 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Now I have 2 choices Maybe second one is that I shall order ? if IPMI/KVM is better than be without USB3 (not using USB3 devices anyway) First http://www.ebay.com/itm/220970115780?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT This have USB 3 but no IPMI/KVM . garycase Posted February 7, 2016 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Entirely a personal choice ... I'd be inclined to go with IPMI, but it's also true that the next version of UnRAID is rumored to support eSATA and USB drives in the array, so USBv3 may be useful to have. On the other hand, you can always pop in a USB3 card, whereas you can't easily add IPMI. Quote Link to comment

Shamalamadindong Posted February 8, 2016 Author Share Posted February 8, 2016 IPMI all the way. You can always add in USB3.0 for 30$, IPMI like functionality is going to cost significantly more. Quote Link to comment
tr0910 Posted February 8, 2016 Share Posted February 8, 2016 8. Noctua NH-U9DXi4 90mm SSO2 CPU Cooler (x2). Runs very cool and is low profile enough not to come close to Norco cover. I'll need something lower profile as my 4u server has an elevated motherboard tray. A 2u cooler will be fine, and even a 3u cooler might fit. What about? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835114126 Quote Link to comment

tr0910 Posted February 8, 2016 Share Posted February 8, 2016 That cooler is passive: no fan. Don't know if you're OK with that. That helps keep it quiet. Hopefully there is enough air movement that it stays cool enough. But you are right, an active cooler that fits the height requirement is a "less worry" solution. Quote Link to comment

garycase Posted February 8, 2016 Share Posted February 8, 2016 That is an amazing system for ~ $500 !! 8 cores, PassMark over 12000, and 64GB of RAM for not much more than the memory alone would cost if you bought it new Quote Link to comment
splnut Posted February 9, 2016 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Is there an ATX PSU with 2 EPS connectors for less than $100? I know they make the adapters to turn 1 8-pin into 2, but what spec on the psu should I look for to power 2 of these? Quote Link to comment

garycase Posted February 9, 2016 Share Posted February 9, 2016 ... Should be a nice upgrade from my FX-6300 and 24GB Ram ... a bit of an understatement :) 6 cores => 16 cores (with support for 32 threads with hyperthreading) PassMark 6345 => 18388 24GB => 64GB I'd say you'll notice a bit of a difference Quote Link to comment

NotYetRated Posted February 9, 2016 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Contemplated going dual socket, because why not at these proc prices, however cant justify it when throwing in the need for a case as well. Went with: Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157523 RAM: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/201380486027 CPU: Listed in OP Hopefully i can find my LGA2011 heatsink plate for my Noctua. 1 Quote Link to comment

garycase Posted February 9, 2016 Share Posted February 9, 2016 ... Can't justify the expense right now. Justify?? Since when is that a requirement for technology purchases ??!! :) I confess I've also resisted jumping in on this, although I'm VERY tempted. [For some strange reason, my wife thinks my 3 UnRAID servers; 3 HTPC's; 3 desktops; 3 older "spare" PC's; and 5 laptops are enough for the 2 of us without the need for yet-another server ] Quote Link to comment
