Data rebuild times (rebuild failure means what?)

Featured Replies

How long can I expect a data rebuild to take if I'm replacing a 3TB drive (that had 1TB of data on it) with an 8TB drive?

Also, if there was a unrecoverable read error during a rebuild (URE) what state would that leave my array in?  I'm just trying to wrap my head around how UnRAID's protected array differs from traditional RAID5.  Since most of my array consists of 8TB drives now, URE's are of real concern if they can drastically impact the state of my array during a rebuild.

The amount of data or size of the old drive don't matter. The new drive will be completely rebuilt from parity.

It will depend largely on controller bottlenecks, speed of other disks, size of other disks, etc, but for reference I did one recently and it took 14h55m.

My last few drive replacements took about the same time as a normal parity check, in the 14-16 hour range..

Thanks guys.  If it's close to the length of a parity check it's going to take me close to 24 hours then.

Check OP for question about potentional URE's during rebuild.
