[SOLVED] Dynamix GUI install assistance

Recommended Posts

Trying to Install Dynamix GUI on v6.1.7.  I found instructions (https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36543.0), but it only discusses the plugins, not the actual install of the Dynamix GUI.

A bit more digging found other instructions (https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31218.0), but dated a year ago.

Went out to github and found what looks like the latest version (https://github.com/limetech/dynamix/tree/master/plugins/dynamix/dynamix.plg) which indeed installed, but with some errors.

Is there a current installation instructions somewhere?  I've tried, but just not finding it...

Thanks!

Ok, so that's what I thought, but I installed a couple of the plugins for Dynamix and click to use them, they download a page that is broken.  I've not seen any other icon or way to run the Dynamix apps.  Am I missing something?  Do instructions on how to access/use these apps exist?

For some reason when you open that link, and I have no idea how it's happened it's referencing a local windows file?!

How did you install the plugins?

I thought that was extremely odd.  I installed the plugins from this article:  https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36543.0.  They installed without any issues.  But no icons showed up in settings, only in the installed plugins as in the picture.  Just click on the icon for the two plugins (Active Streams and System Info).  Both behave the same and download an HTM file (I've attached)...

Reckon something must have gone wrong with the install process.  Try uninstalling them all and just install them via CA

Where can I find the latest Dynamix Web GUI and the other files https://github.com/limetech/dynamix/tree/master/plugins/dynamix/dynamix.plg?  Or is there a better source?

Dynamix GUI is installed, it's the interface to Unraid.

Dynamix also has a range of other plugins like system temperature etc, But stop messing around looking at repos and install it via CA.  It'll make it a lot easier for you

I think I may have a theory on where you went wrong and it was the link above that gave me the theory.  If you post that into Unraid, it'll cause an almighty mess, because you're pasting a webpage into the plugin system which will try and process it as it ends in .plg

If you want to paste directly from github it needs to be the raw page like here.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/limetech/dynamix/master/plugins/dynamix/dynamix.plg

BUT DO NOT INSTALL THIS - THERE IS NO NEED IT IS INTEGRATED INTO UNRAID.

Any other plugins from dynamix install from community applications.

Ok, I messed up.  When you said to uninstall, I uninstalled all three - argh...  So i've installed the Dynamix plugin as well...  How do I recover?

telnet into your box and run this

cd /boot

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/limetech/dynamix/master/plugins/dynamix/dynamix.plg

installplg dynamix.plg

it'll go back to default 6.1.7 then check for updates.  Problem is that dynamix got uninstalled...  Not quite sure what happens on that situation, so personally I'd cut my losses, assume that dynamix gui is biffed and just start the server over again.

But then again, I could be wrong too...

telnet into your box and run this

Thanks!  That worked.  So now to the question of the various plugins.  Is there an updated source for those?  Or did I have the right ones?

For the love of God and all things holy, go into CA and look there and install whatever you fancy, but don't do it through github repos...

There's no need.  They will always install the most recent version.

CA only lists what's compatible and always grabs the latest version.  (If I had my way, after CA was installed, the URL option for installing plugins would disappear)

Nope, a little bit more embarassment before you turn it off....  ;D  ;)

Don't feel too bad, my appdata got moved to my array on more than one occasion when I started using containers.  Not so bad once you know what's going on, but I spent five hours trying to work it out the first time....  ::)  And a good couple the second time as well... By the third time I knew straight away....  ;)

/embarrassment on

Thanks, I get it now.  Part of the problem for us noobs is the articles all get muddled together and instructions on one post confuses what one should or should not be doing.  Part of becoming a 'non-noob'...I suppose...

/embarrassment off

Don't be embarrassed.  Everyone starts at the same place.  It just took some repetition for it to sink in for you.

Net result to be taken away from this for yourself, or for anyone reading this is that you only ever need to manually install one plugin:  Community Applications (and it should probably be the very first thing installed).  After that, use it for everything.  As close to an appstore experience as you can get in unRaid.

If you run across something on the forum's that's not indexed within CA, as a general rule its for the uber advanced user, or you can expect support on the app to be non-existent.

After I ran the wget and installplg, I could see it in the Installed Plugins.  I had the array offline.  Navigated to Main and started the array and its now hung on that page.  Once the dynamix plugin has been re-installed, do you have to reboot?

If reboot - I have a pre-clear in process.  Is is ok to reboot with a preclear in process?  I started the preclear from the Webgui, so not sure where I can access it without the GUI...?  Usually I do a screen for preclears.  Been trying all the webgui goodies...and stumbling along the way... ;)

@Squid (and other watching noobs)...  Now I REALLY get it.  I've use CA (Community Apps) to do everything in UR 6, but...and this is important...did not know CA replaced everything else.  Calling is the App Store is a great way to get the concept across...

Now I'm not sure if I've really screwed stuff up since the GUI won't load.  Its no emergency, I can access telnet no issues and I can wait til the preclear finishes...but without the webgui, not sure how to monitor it...
