February 4, 201610 yr Hey all, I am looking to virtualize a Windows 7 PC that I use as a media center device. I am wondering what the best approach is for this to do it as quickly and simply as possible. By this, I mean should I do a clean install of a Win 7 VM then transfer the various programs and functions over, or just remove the hard drive, assign it to the VM and start it up? Thoughts? This machine uses Windows Media Center, so I can't switch it to Win 10, unfortunately.
February 4, 201610 yr General steps I would personally take. Others may have different opinions. 1. Force install virtio storage drivers in current running PC. 2. Make full image backup using acronis or similar. 3. Set up VM on unraid and restore backup to virtual disk. 4. Fix things that broke.
