temperature reading

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just installed the basicedition, and until now it looks great, but the temperature reading bugs me.

.

Main page shows:

parity  Maxtor 5A300J0/A81AP8DE    *  292,970,128  -                              0    43,130,643  0

disk1 SAMSUNG SP1614N/0735J1FW813719   * 156,290,872 156,253,256 39,083,336             2 0

disk2 SAMSUNG SP1614N/S016J10W809458   * 156,290,872 156,253,200 39,082,161     37,617    0

as you see, no temp reading

But after a telnetsession, and three commands

cat /proc/ide/hda/smart_values

cat /proc/ide/hdc/smart_values

cat /proc/ide/hdd/smart_values

then the mainpage shows the temperature !!!, but after a reboot they are gone again.

Is there a way to have these commands executed automatically at startup?

/Rene

When I reboot, I get the following with my hdparm -I commands:

        Enabled Supported:

           *    READ BUFFER cmd

           *    WRITE BUFFER cmd

           *    Host Protected Area feature set

           *    Look-ahead

           *    Write cache

           *    Power Management feature set

                Security Mode feature set

                SMART feature set

           *    FLUSH CACHE EXT command

           *    Mandatory FLUSH CACHE command

           *    Device Configuration Overlay feature set

           *    48-bit Address feature set

                SET MAX security extension

           *    DOWNLOAD MICROCODE cmd

           *    General Purpose Logging feature set

           *    SMART self-test

           *    SMART error logging

and my drives never show a temperature or seem to spin down. After issuing the cat /proc/ide/hda/smart_values command, hdparm -I now shows:

Commands/features:

        Enabled Supported:

           *    READ BUFFER cmd

           *    WRITE BUFFER cmd

           *    Host Protected Area feature set

           *    Look-ahead

           *    Write cache

           *    Power Management feature set

                Security Mode feature set

           *    SMART feature set

           *    FLUSH CACHE EXT command

           *    Mandatory FLUSH CACHE command

           *    Device Configuration Overlay feature set

           *    48-bit Address feature set

                SET MAX security extension

           *    DOWNLOAD MICROCODE cmd

           *    General Purpose Logging feature set

           *    SMART self-test

           *    SMART error logging

and I now start getting temp readings on the web page. I guess I am also confused as to why the SMART feature set is not enabled upon boot.
