February 7, 201610 yr http://m.costco.com/Seagate-5TB-Backup-Plus-External-Hard-Drive-.product.100170101.html Hello, I'm just wanting to see if this is a good drive and how hard is it to break it open? Costco has them on-sale for $109. Thanks, Chris
February 9, 201610 yr If you get one (or more) you can run the pre-clear routine over USB. This way you can verify the drive passes pre-clear before taking it out of the case and potentially having a warranty return issue if it's no good. Edit: Just logged in to Costco and it shows for $119.99 after applying instant rebate. Pretty smoking deal!
February 12, 201610 yr Is it a good (or at least decent) drive to install as a parity drive? How do I run a preclear from USB? Does it have to be thru the server (my server doesn't have USB3) or could it be from another PC (Win 10 or 7) with a specific app?
February 14, 201610 yr I have had 2 for a 2+ years, mine get hauled around a lot, I use them for actual portability, not plug and stay. Great drives both still running with no errors or problems to date!
