elfner11
Hello Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I believe I am having poor performance in my Windows 10 VM on unRAID. The VM does feel a bit sluggish. I ran a benchmark on the drive. See below for the results. The 4K random wrote didn't even finish it was so slow. The SSD is mounted outside the array via the Unassigned Devices plugin. Qcow2 image takes about ~20gigs of space The drive is a CT064M4SSD2 and the specs can be found here: http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16820148441 Here is the XML file: <domain type='kvm' id='8'> <name>Win10-SSD</name> <uuid>06021a5e-af84-772d-2f44-bf863c4eb2a9</uuid> <metadata> <vmtemplate name="Custom" icon="windows.png" os="windows"/> </metadata> <memory unit='KiB'>4194304</memory> <currentMemory unit='KiB'>4194304</currentMemory> <memoryBacking> <nosharepages/> <locked/> </memoryBacking> <vcpu placement='static'>3</vcpu> <cputune> <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='2'/> <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='3'/> <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='4'/> </cputune> <resource> <partition>/machine</partition> </resource> <os> <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-i440fx-2.3'>hvm</type> </os> <features> <acpi/> <apic/> <hyperv> <relaxed state='on'/> <vapic state='on'/> <spinlocks state='on' retries='8191'/> </hyperv> </features> <cpu mode='host-passthrough'> <topology sockets='1' cores='3' threads='1'/> </cpu> <clock offset='localtime'> <timer name='hypervclock' present='yes'/> <timer name='hpet' present='no'/> </clock> <on_poweroff>destroy</on_poweroff> <on_reboot>restart</on_reboot> <on_crash>restart</on_crash> <devices> <emulator>/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64</emulator> <disk type='file' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2' cache='writeback'/> <source file='/mnt/disks/M4-CT064M4SSD2_0000000012070905EBED/KVM/Win10-SSD/vdisk1.qcow2'/> <backingStore/> <target dev='hdc' bus='virtio'/> <boot order='1'/> <alias name='virtio-disk2'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x05' function='0x0'/> </disk> <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source file='/mnt/user/Miscellaneous/OSes/Windows 10 x64 Enterprise/cyg-win10ent64.iso'/> <backingStore/> <target dev='hda' bus='ide'/> <readonly/> <boot order='2'/> <alias name='ide0-0-0'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk> <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source file='/mnt/user/Miscellaneous/OSes/virtio-win-0.1.112.iso'/> <backingStore/> <target dev='hdb' bus='ide'/> <readonly/> <alias name='ide0-0-1'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='1'/> </disk> <controller type='usb' index='0'> <alias name='usb'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x01' function='0x2'/> </controller> <controller type='pci' index='0' model='pci-root'> <alias name='pci.0'/> </controller> <controller type='ide' index='0'> <alias name='ide'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x01' function='0x1'/> </controller> <controller type='virtio-serial' index='0'> <alias name='virtio-serial0'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x04' function='0x0'/> </controller> <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='52:54:00:40:c5:65'/> <source bridge='br0'/> <target dev='vnet1'/> <model type='virtio'/> <alias name='net0'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x03' function='0x0'/> </interface> <serial type='pty'> <source path='/dev/pts/1'/> <target port='0'/> <alias name='serial0'/> </serial> <console type='pty' tty='/dev/pts/1'> <source path='/dev/pts/1'/> <target type='serial' port='0'/> <alias name='serial0'/> </console> <channel type='unix'> <source mode='bind' path='/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/channel/target/Win10-SSD.org.qemu.guest_agent.0'/> <target type='virtio' name='org.qemu.guest_agent.0' state='disconnected'/> <alias name='channel0'/> <address type='virtio-serial' controller='0' bus='0' port='1'/> </channel> <input type='tablet' bus='usb'> <alias name='input0'/> </input> <input type='mouse' bus='ps2'/> <input type='keyboard' bus='ps2'/> <graphics type='vnc' port='5902' autoport='yes' websocket='5701' listen='0.0.0.0' keymap='en-us'> <listen type='address' address='0.0.0.0'/> </graphics> <video> <model type='vmvga' vram='16384' heads='1'/> <alias name='video0'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x02' function='0x0'/> </video> <memballoon model='virtio'> <alias name='balloon0'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </memballoon> </devices> </domain> Any help is greatly appreciated. jude
Lots of discussion of this topic here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=43931.0 Seems like unRaid 6.2 will likely speed up SSD performance. I believe that converting the VM disk from QCOW to Raw will also speed things up because there is less overhead. Quote Link to comment
elfner11
Thanks for the input, ill see if I can convert it and follow that thread. Quote Link to comment
billington.mark
Trust me. ive tried everything! (i started up that other thread) the only thing left to do is wait for 6.2 where qemu and libvirt have updates and take things from there. Quote Link to comment
