Management Options

Hi,

I just got my new unRAID box up and running and I am having issues accessing it from outside my network. Basically, I live in a managed accommodation who use Ask4 as their ISP. We have to setup MAC addresses in their system, but that allows me to also set a static IP for that single machine. This is great BUT all ports are closed. They refuse to open them on demand.

In the past I've used Hamachi to get around this. I'm not sure how or why hamachi works but it does. However, unRAID doesnt appear to have a hamachi docker/plugin and I've read a lot about OpenVPN. My only issue being: does OpenVPN require any open ports to function?

Thanks

Tom

It would be a very bad idea to open up unraid by just opening ports... Some kind of VPN solution will be best. Every network solution will make use of some sort of port..

What kind of access do you want to the system ?  telnet into it ?  reach files ? dockers ?

For the most part I just want to be able to get to the management interface. File access would be great though. Right now I can't get to anything - so anything is better than the current situation xD

Install Teamviewer on another PC and remote control it to access your unRAID.

I agree on teamviewer... that is build like a house.. allmost always works...

Absolutely the best choice is a personal vpn.. but you would need to open up some ports for that..
