IDE disc at 150GB as cache disc ?

Featured Replies

Is this good using above discs as cache? or must it be much larger ?

All my sata is full, so I need to use a IDE disc

Thanks

Peter

The cache disk is only a temporary storage medium for the largest amount of data you would transfer in a 24 hour period.

You can adjust the 24 hour period manually if you choose.

If the IDE drive has a decent transfer rate, then there is no issue with using this drive.

However, as  1 50GB disk, it may be a bit old and the interface may not be that fast to begin with.

You do need to consider the maximum transfer rate of this drive.

I would suggest go ahead use it and test it out.

Consider that the new tunings that limetech has put into the unRAID beta may negate the need for this drive. (unless the goal is to prevent spinups).

Thanks, this is a IDE /133 something, it was a spare disc and the latest beta have they enabled the cache disc in plus version :-)

But when enabled this cache disc on one of my share.. should not this folder on that share  also be creates on my cache disc ? so I can drag file to the cache folders ?

Now that you can use a cache disk in the Plus version,

don't take it as a strong suggestion that you should use it.

Many people consider the beneft of that cache disk to be negligible

compared to the tradeoff of having some of your data unprotected for 24 hours.
