Suggestion On my HTPC to unraid server

Featured Replies

Hello all I am thinking about turning my Plex HTPC into a server using unraid 6 and a few dockers, Docker will be plex, dropbox,  crashplan, owncloud

My HTPC components are:

processor  AMD Phenom X6 1055T

mb GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX

ram 8gb

750w psu

3tb drive  Photos/home movies

3tb drive movies

2tb drive tv shows

1tb drive kids movies

Thinking I need to add  a Pcie sata card  to add 3 more drive for backups, and change my case to a Nanoxia Deep Silence 5 Big Tower Case to fit all my 7 drives, 1 cache, 1 Parity at this time.

Is there any downside to this?

What are you going to use to watch stuff instead of your HTPC?

Either a smart tv with plex app or an dell desk top.  The Htpc now was PMS and PHT on it .  I have three desktops ,2 smart tv ,1  iphone,1 ipad  thats connect, all my video are mkv ,mp4 or avi.

I was looking to make that Htpc in a to server and a nas,

Should be fine, only thing to check is your CPU Passmark.  As a rough guide you need 2000 to transcode each 1080p stream.

EDIT: Your CPU has a passmark of over 5000 so you should be good.  :)
