Connection to Unraid lost when using trendnet 8 Gigabit switch

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have version 6.1.3.

I use the Google onhub router, which only has 2 ethernet ports, one in, one out. Up till now, I had internet in, and out to unraid.

I have recently bought the philips hue bridge, which needs to be connected to the ethernet router. So, I put in a switch. Without the Hue bridge plugged in, the connection to the Unraid is lost when running through the switch. No lights. The switch works with other devices.

I found this article:  https://goo.gl/GBSWQT

This seems to highlight a similar experience. And yet, this switch is promoted on this forum.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or do I need to buy a new (different) switch ?

Thanks.

Did you try restarting everything?

Turn off router, switch and server then restart/turn on in same order.

A lot of the newer switches are 'green' devices and they will shutdown ports that they think are inactive.  I just went through a period of time when I had that issue with a 16 port ZyXEL switch.  In my case, it usually disconnected one of my six media boxes.  Some of the ports were more prone to fail then others but there were only two or three opens ports to switch things out to.  The quick-and-dirty solution was to reboot the switch.  (Which was easy in that it had a off/on switch.  What was the pain in derriere was that it was up a flight of stairs--[and the WAF problem]!)  I finally just broke down and purchased a new switch...
