February 18, 201610 yr Hello, i´m a toal newbie in networking and i tried to set up an unraid (6.1.8. trail) server. Most things are working fine, but there is a problem with Windows 10 machines. They can access unRaid server via //ip/share, but the unraid server doesn´t show up in the network list. A very old win xp pc work fine. Is that a settings problem in unraid server or where can i search for a solution? Workgroup is ouf course the right one. Greets Ronny
February 18, 201610 yr Same here. Has something to do with Windows 10 disabling unsecured SMB shares, but I am currently looking for a resolution.
February 18, 201610 yr This could be a comparability issue with the version of SAMBA and SMB 2&3. If you disable SMB 2&3 (on your windows machine) it might fix it. (Not guaranteed, because this might not be the actual problem... this did work for me however.) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2696547 It's possible an update to Windows, or more likely SAMBA will fix this issue in the future. Edit: You want to disable the SMB 2&3 client... Edit 2: To disable SMBv2 and SMBv3 on the SMB client, run the following commands: sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled Must use an Admin Command Prompt, and you must restart afterwards.
February 18, 201610 yr Author Thanks for answering. I think i´ll just wait if anything will be fixed in the future. Access works, it´s just a cosmetic problem...
February 18, 201610 yr Disabling 2&3 is the answer until UnRaid adds SMB v3. MS broke this in W8.1 and carried it forward to W10. I don't see them doing anything to change that.
February 19, 201610 yr Author Ok, then i hope that unraid add SMB3 in the future. I don´t want to disable ist on the 2 Win 10 pc´s, cause i have a WD NAS which works great. Of course unRaid ist way more powerful, but for me it is a perfect and relatively easy way to turn my old pc into a storage server for backups.

"Soon™" I have verified this is in the latest round of patches from M$. My laptop wasn't updated and it was the only win10 machine in my house that could still the shares. I updated it and after reboot I had no more shares showing.. You can still get to the shares but you can no longer browse them.
February 19, 201610 yr Many many possible solutions have been posted here, but the only one which does100% work (although is not a real solution) is to pin your server to the quick links section
