Sorry...didn't plug the head/monitor in.

Your boot order might have changed...  Go back into BIOS and change the order.  Alot of BIOS's change the boot order when adding / removing drives

OK...1st Boot Device, is still USB-FDD (2nd & 3rd are disabled); but under Hard Disk Boot Priority...my flash is 7th in order.

Should that be 1st?

Yes.  If the flash device isn't first in the boot order, you're always going to have problems booting.

Well yes; I know that much...lol. It's just in 2 different places.

Better safe than sorry. Thanks; will update in a few minutes.

Its not in two different places.  Seriously doubt that your flash drive is being recognized as a floppy drive by your BIOS, especially since it's showing as a Hard Disk

Problem with a ton of BIOS's out there is that they don't actually check to see if a hard drive is bootable.  What they do instead is check to see if the first partition on it is "Active" (which is a prerequisite for a bootable partition).  Once it finds an active partition, some BIOS's will quit looking for others and just try and boot  (usually shows up as just a flashing cursor)

OK, well I'm good now Squid; thanks.

Quick unrelated question? I have a USB Passport...and I'm having trouble, accessing the drive; through any Windows machines. I've tried chkdsk /f and /r; no dice.

So I had the brilliant idea...that maybe plugging it, into my unRAID server; might allow me to access the "raw" data and recover it. But the second I plugged it in (I know, because I was streaming a music file...and the music stopped instantly); my server "shut down"  ???  ???

If it outright shutdown, then it almost sounds like there's a short on the cable between the 5v and GND.  (or its drawing way too much power and your desktops can handle the overload but your server mobo can't)

Do you think there are files on the Passport and what file system? If not you might just need to partition and format it using Windows Disk Management.

Unlikely unRAID will be much help to you getting the "raw" data unless you have some specific notion of how to use the dd command to get the bits and do something useful with them.

Try shutting down your pc and then plugging the drive into the rear usb sockets. Power on the PC and wait for it to boot (you might have to change boot order again). Unraid is happy to read ntfs format so you can see if there is anything on the drive...
