February 20, 201610 yr Here is my configuration http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rhdRZL I am 100% new to linux and Unraid so i have some understanding as to what is going on but not a whole lot. I have one of my Reds as parity and the other as data. The ssd is a cache drive (which is read only for whatever reason. Everything is set up basically as default. I was able to see my Unraid box on my network last night but now i cant. No IP's were changed or anything, not sure what happened there. I am trying to set up docker but when i go to add the image file to my cache drive and hit "apply" it will come up as "file has been deleted" since it's in read only im assuming I have created a shared folder under my cache drive called "appdata" to store everything like the Docker image file. I have since tried to delete that folder but it is showing on disk1 instead of my cache drive even though i have Only cache drive selected under shares. If you need anything else let me know and ill try to get everything to you. Side note: is there anyway for me to get the wireless card show in my build to work with unraid so i don't necessarily have to be plugged in via ethernet if i were to ever need to? I have my box plugged into my modem and i have a router coming from my modem but I'm wanting to be able to use plex on my roku wirelessly and wasnt sure if having the box plugged into the modem would allow my roku to see the unraid box if it's not no my wireless network. Also a little ignorant when it comes to some networking stuff... thanks
February 21, 201610 yr Community Expert You should plug everything into your router so they will be on the same network. For your other issues, go to Tools - Diagnostics and post the complete diagnostics zip.
February 21, 201610 yr Couple of things.. - Your cache drive is mounted as read-only, which is going to cause a whack of problems. I *believe* that it is also formatted as NTFS which is another issue. If it indeed is, you should reformat it as XFS.
February 21, 201610 yr i knew it was in read only but dont know how to change it lol, ill look at changing it to xfs
February 21, 201610 yr i knew it was in read only but dont know how to change it lol, ill look at changing it to xfs lol Didn't read the OP Just stop the array, change the FS of the cache to XFS and restart it. I believe unRaid now includes the NTFS driver for some reason, but it only works as RO, and unRaid itself doesn't support drives that were previously formatted as NTFS.

February 21, 201610 yr My edit cross posted yours. Stop array. Change file system on cache drive to XFS (by selecting the Cache Drive from the Main tab). Restart. It should say something like Do you want to format or something like that

It should say something like Do you want to format or something like that oh that's it? i did that. i guess i should try writing to it haha. Okay, how do i delete my old appdata share... it doesn't have the option to and when i clear the name and hit apply it does nothing
February 21, 201610 yr You're going to have to delete the files out of it (over the network will be fine) Then when you go into that share from the Share Tab, it should say share is empty, and bring up a "Delete" check box Then recreate it as a cache only share. Then save yourself a lot of grief and aggravation and install CA (link in my sig), and install any apps by using it.

I have SMB enabled on said shares and still nothing. am i missing something?
February 21, 201610 yr Common issue with win10 with a ton of various NAS devices In the address bar for explorer, type in "\\tower" (or whatever you called the server) and if that fails, then \\192.168.1.11 (or whatever the IP address is) From there, the easiest solution is to pin the current folder to Quick Access

February 21, 201610 yr In the address bar for explorer, type in "\\tower" (or whatever you called the server) and if that fails, then \\192.168.1.11 (or whatever the IP address is) Does ^^^ work?
February 21, 201610 yr In the address bar for explorer, type in "\\tower" (or whatever you called the server) and if that fails, then \\192.168.1.11 (or whatever the IP address is) Does ^^^ work? okay, i thought i was an idiot ( see my last comments edit) i had a synology nas named the same thing as my unraid nas so when i type that into explorer it pops open chrome and goes to synology. when i type in my nas' IP it takes me to the web GUI nope. im definitley a moron. i forgot the "\\" ....

February 21, 201610 yr if you do /mnt/diskX/media, then plex (or any container or app or whatever) will only see the media thats on disk 1 If you do /mnt/user/media, then they will see all the files stored in the media share regardless of which disk its stored on (and this is probably what you're going to want)

It depends on how your shares are set up. You should read the tutorial on disk vs user shares. If you set up your shares as disk, the data in that share will be written to that one disk only. If you set up as user, data will be writing across multiple disk drives.
February 22, 201610 yr yeah same thing happened to me except everything changed to read only so now I cant erase anything and sonarr wont start for some odd reason
