February 23, 201610 yr Well, my little server is maxed out! What size hard drive to buy? 4GB, 6GB, 8GB? I will have to REPLACE one of the 2GB drives. Please see screenshot!
February 23, 201610 yr I think you meant Terabyte TB, not Gigabyte GB? If you go larger than 4TB you have to make it your parity drive, so I would replace the 2TB with 4TB, WD RED maybe or Seagate NAS?
February 23, 201610 yr The choice is entirely up to you. You can either buy another 4TB drive and replace one of the 2TB drives; or you can buy a larger drive (6TB or 8TB) and replace the parity drive ... and then use the old parity drive to replace one of the 2TB drives. In either case, the net result will be 2 additional TB of storage for now ... but if you buy a larger parity drive you'll then be able to use that size drive the next time you need to expand. i.e. if you buy an 8TB drive for parity, you could then buy 8TB drives to replace the remaining 3 2TB drives as you need more storage -- adding an additional 18TB of space compared to the 6TB you could add by using 4TB drives for the same 3 replacements.
