Darksurf
I'm in /var/log looking for old logs (messages/syslog) as I'm trying to troubleshoot a bad stick of ram. (started getting uncorrectable memory errors on ECC memory) I'm finding messages and syslog are only logs from the current boot! nothing from last boot or few times before. This is a huge problem considering logs are the lifeblood of much troubleshooting. Also, I have ECC memory in my server but couldn't load edac_core to troubleshoot which stick of memory has the uncorrectable errors. So currently we have no past logs or methods to troubleshoot ECC memory. Is there anything I can do to assist in moving this forward ASAP as an update? Thanks, Frosty Quote Link to comment
remotevisitor
/var/log is on a RAM disk which is created on each boot and therefore the contents do not survive a reboot. I suggest you look at installing the powerdown plugin which has an option to copy the syslog to your flash drive. Quote Link to comment
RobJ
I concur, install the powerdown plugin, has more reliable shutdown for edge cases and saves logs to logs folder on boot flash. I hadn't heard of edac_core here before, but that's a legitimate request for Tom. Quote Link to comment
