February 24, 201610 yr OK, so I've been running 5.0.6 for awhile now, & thought I'd go ahead and upgrade to current over the weekend. Everything went pretty well, with the exception of needing to go to the server after upgrading, & pulling the flashdrive, taking it back to my computer to run the make_bootable & then taking it back to the server. (pita) Main thing I use unraid for, is just as an smb fileserver for all our media. TV shows, Movies, Music.. I access this media mostly with Kodi Anyway, was up & running fine on 6, but then my daughter wanted to watch a movie. Started it, & it was fine for a couple min, then it just ended. (dropped back to the file list on Kodi) Tried on a couple other TV's & had the same issue, regardless of the file or the device it was streaming to. Even playing on my computer TV shows were dying the same way. Wish I'd had more time to troubleshoot & try some different things, but the family was getting restless without their media, so I went back to 5.0.6 (grr.. again had to take the flash drive to my computer) And now that I'm back on 5.0.6, it's working perfectly again. Any thoughts on what would cause that? The server is connected on a gig switch, & only 2 of the devices were using wireless N, the rest were wired, so I am at a loss as to why it would be having that much trouble providing a file.. We sometimes have 3 or 4 things streaming out to our devices/TV's at the same time & never have I had this kind of issue before. I'm running a Pro license, with 3 icy dock 5 drive sata enclosures, an ABit A9 MB with a dual core Celeron proc. 1G of memory, and I believe currently about 10 disks total (no cache) Could it be a memory issue? I'm not running any plugins or anything beyond the base OS on this server. Thanks
February 24, 201610 yr Author Nope, IP is set manually, and the server was reachable by both IP and hostname. I was able to start playing things, but they'd play for a min or two, then just close. I do use user shares ex \\Tower\TV --> disk4 & disk7 \\Tower\Movies --> disk2 & disk8 Everything was exported correctly. I was able to navigate around both in putty, and on my windows box vi Samba shares. I did look at the log tab before reverting to 5.0.6, & there was very little there, & nothing to indicate an issue.
February 24, 201610 yr Author Don't believe so. This is my MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127004
February 24, 201610 yr Don't believe so. This is my MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127004 It lists Realtek, so that's probably the issue. Try using an intel ethernet card.
February 24, 201610 yr Actually probably more likely memory since op only has 1 gig ram which is less that the recomended minimum of 2 gig

February 24, 201610 yr Community Expert Would recommend that you go to 4GB of RAM. While 2GB may be adequate, 4GB is not that much more expensive and you will get better performance since ver6 will use all of the RAM it has. If nothing else, it will use the excess as a cache for I/O. Plus, you will have a bit of breathing room should you ever decide to install any plugins or dockers. Since it appears that that MB uses DDR2 memory and the demand for it will be dropping, it will probably never be cheaper than it is today!
February 25, 201610 yr Author Thanks, I ordered 4G yesterday after posting the original question, as I'm not sure why I only had 1G in there in the first place. Must have just forgotten about it, as it has been working perfectly since version 3 or 4 when I started using it. Memory will be here tomorrow, so I'll get it in over the weekend & see what happens. Thanks
