February 25, 201610 yr I can see my movies when I am in the webgui, but navigating from my laptop to the shared folder, the movies are no longer where they were. WTF did I do and how can i fix this. Not sure what logs would be helpful.
February 25, 201610 yr Author here you go. Like I said when I am in the Web Gui and click on the folder icon to view the share it shows up in there, but not when I navigate to the shared folder tower-diagnostics-20160224-1726.zip
February 25, 201610 yr Community Expert Your diagnostics are anonymized, but I think it shows what I was expecting. You have accidentally created another share with the same name as the share you are trying to see, except one of the shares starts with a "p" and the other starts with a "P". Linux is case-sensitive, so these are different shares. Unfortunately, Windows is not case-sensitive, so it only sees one of them, probably the one you created by accident and it is empty. Any top level folder on any drive is automatically considered a user share so when you specified a path with the wrong name a share got created. Delete it from the User Shares.
February 25, 201610 yr Author Fuck me< i think I actually did it this time.... I think my stuff is gone, I don't seem them in my web gui now. How do i give you access to my log???
February 25, 201610 yr Author I updated to 6.1.8 yesterday and still have my back-up 6.1.6 I think. If I boot up to that USB drive will that, somehow revert things?? ugh, I can't believe I did this...
February 25, 201610 yr This won't help you I fear. It's a backup of the system only, but not of your data drives. If you deleted data when removing the share, this will be gone with the old version, too. Please wait for advice from the more knowledgeable people here and don't do writes to your array in the meantime. Every write could destroy the deleted data forever. To give others access to your log and further debugging info: "Go to the Tools tab, click on the Diagnostics icon, then click on the Download button (Collect button in earlier v6 versions). It will download the zip file to your desktop station."

It is extremely unlikely that you have lost your data unless you did something at the command line. Especially if you were just deleting an empty share as I advised. unRAID will not let you delete a share that is not empty. Logs can often tell us a lot about what your hardware is doing, and they can tell us some things about how you have things configured. They often cannot tell very much about what you have done. What would be much more useful than a log would be for you to give us a clear, detailed, and complete description of what you have done.
February 25, 201610 yr Author So I took your advice after the first issue, well I renamed the similar share and then in Windows my files showed back up. I went to install the plex plugin again and it wasn't working, so I decided to try a different version. Well the problem was, I installed the plex plugin and set the install locations to the share where my movies were on. I was having problems with the plugin and read that sometimes you have to reinstall it. So I did, this time when I uninstalled it I noticed that in the webgui looking at the dashboard my array all of a sudden had a ton of more free space than before. those shares that had the same name I just renamed, I didn't want to delete anything just in case.

Extremely unlikely uninstalling a plugin did anything to your data, and you left out the detail about which plugin exactly you tried to install. PhAzE is the only supported plex plugin, but there are still others out there so we can't really assume. In fact, since you actually say you tried different versions I think we can only assume you have tried to install a broken one at some point. Boot in SAFE mode and check if you can access your files.
February 25, 201610 yr Author I installed the phase plex connect at first, not realizing it was the wrong plugin. Then I installed the phase plex media server plugin. I'll reboot into safe mode when o get home. It just worries me this time that I could previously navigate to my movies via the web gui, but now they aren't showing up. Fingers crossed.
February 25, 201610 yr I would send you to the command line to check to see if the files still exist and this is just an smb / listing error, but given your prior responses and don't think this is a great idea. If you go to your shares tab in the webgui and click on the folder next to the share it should list the files / folders in that share, does that show your movies? Worst possible case is that the plugin for some crazy reason wipes the install folder clean before writing. I don't know why it would do this, so I'm really doubt full that that is what happened. Also if you want some extra security you might want to install the SMB recycle bin plugin. It doesn't help in cases where you mess things up at the command line or on the Linux side, but it does help if you accidently delete something when you are browsing via SMB.
February 25, 201610 yr Community Expert One thing you could try to be to go into 'Settings', 'Global Share Settings' and turn on 'Enable disk shares:'. Then go to 'Shares', 'Disk Shares', click on the name of each of your data disks, (i.e., "disk1") and click on 'SMB Security Settings' and turn 'Export:' "On" and 'Security:' to "Public". You now to able to see the contents of each on your disks in Windows Explorer.

I would rather he not do that at this point since this is a good way to let the user accidentally cause data loss and he seems accident-prone.

Maybe I should monkey with less important information....

I still haven't rebooted into safe mode yet,you think it's safe too? syslog.zip
February 25, 201610 yr Community Expert I should have said earlier that you should always post the diagnostics zip instead of posting a syslog. Diagnostics includes syslog and other things that may be useful so for future reference, we prefer the complete diagnostics. Looks like you have configured your apps to Use cache disk: Yes instead of Use cache disk: Only, so they are being moved. But we'll deal with that later. Boot in SAFE mode.
February 25, 201610 yr Author They aren't showing up in safe mode either.... Here's the diagnostics log tower-diagnostics-20160225-1357.zip
February 25, 201610 yr Community Expert What share do you think is missing data? In fact, what makes you think you are missing data?
February 25, 201610 yr Author My Plex share had like 6tb of movies on it that arent showing up. It says 9.4 TB free and I only have a 10TB array.
February 25, 201610 yr Community Expert I still think we must be missing part of the story. Perhaps your data is gone, but nothing you have told us explains how you managed to lose it. You have 3 shares with variations of the name plex. There is Plex, plexx, and plexxx. Do any of them have files in them?
February 25, 201610 yr Author When you told me to to delete the shares with the lower case "p" in plex I couldn't cause they had data on them. So I changed the name of the first copy of plex, then my movies showed back up. I tried to install the plex plugin again and like a complete moron used a lower case p or it auto filled the field with a lower case "p" because I alreadyhad used that spelling and my laptop was auto filling in fields. I DID delete some of the data on one of the copy drives in an attempt to delete the share, but I am pretty sure I didn't select a anything named folders named movies. "Plex" was the first share I created and used to store my movies. The "plexx" share is the one I deleted files off of. I am really at a loss for words here, I have no idea how those files got moved.
February 25, 201610 yr Author I am trying to think of ANYTHING else I did, but I can't. The only things I was really able to do were to run Plex for a little while and scan my folders to add movies to the server. I started to optimize my Plex server but stopped.
