Motherboard Change - Help

Featured Replies

I have just changed my motherboard with a Asus PQ5 Deluxe, everything went OK, running 4.4.2. and then updated to 4.5 Beta 9 no problems

Powered down to tidy up cables, and now Unraid will not start

BIOS sees all drives, when Unraid starts it reports that no disks have been assigned.

All disks are shown in the down menu for under the devices tab, however as soon as I assign the first drive network access is lost. If I connect a monitor to the server I see the normal console with errors showing

I have tried pluuging the flah drive into my normal PC to see if I can copy over the bzroot and bzimage files over from the 4.4.2 version, but instead of showing the contents, all that is shown is a CD audio track of 44 bytes

I have now accessed the Flash Drive over the network, and copied back bzroot and bzimage files from 4.4.2 and now is all OK

Strange when I was trying to run 4.5 Beta 9, it kept trying to say Yes to Obtain DNS Automatically and would not let me change to No, as I like to set IP addresses myself.

Is this a bug, and would explain why I lost network connection when trying to assign drives?

When moving between versions did you just update/change bzroot and bzimage? If so then check flash drives config\network.cfg file should look like this:

# Generated settings:

USE_DHCP=no

IPADDR=192.168.1.10

NETMASK=255.255.255.0

GATEWAY=192.168.1.254

HWADDR=00:00:00:00:00:00

DHCP_KEEPRESOLV=no

DNS_SERVER1=192.168.1.254

DNS_SERVER2=

DNS_SERVER3=

USE_DHCP=no would be where I'd look first suspect your no (lowercase) is *NO* (uppercase).

Thanks for the email, no when changing between versions I simply copied over the new bzroot and bzimage files as per Ton's instructions.

I wonder if the network file got corrupted, or if this is a bug.

All is OK, network.cfg reads:-

# Generated settings:

USE_DHCP=no

IPADDR=192.168.1.10

NETMASK=255.255.255.0

GATEWAY=192.168.1.1

HWADDR=00:23:54:1A:A8:A2

DHCP_KEEPRESOLV=no

DNS_SERVER1=192.168.1.1

DNS_SERVER2=192.168.1..1

DNS_SERVER3=

That is your problem....

DNS_SERVER2=192.168.1..1

Notice two dots....The validation is failing in the newer version...whereas the old version is accepting the incorrect address and ignoring it.

Also no need to have two DNS servers listed if they are the same server.

Try this one.

# Generated settings:

USE_DHCP=no

IPADDR=192.168.1.10

NETMASK=255.255.255.0

GATEWAY=192.168.1.1

HWADDR=00:23:54:1A:A8:A2

DHCP_KEEPRESOLV=no

DNS_SERVER1=192.168.1.1

DNS_SERVER2=

DNS_SERVER3=

Thankls I have now ammended the Gateway DNS address accordingly, and have just one entry

Now calculating parity, don't know if I am brave enough to go to 4.5 Beta 9 or wait for the final issue

Sorry, should read DNS server

4.5 beta 10 is the latest shipping beta version. Nice improvement in write speed. If you copy a lot of data to the server reguarly I'd say it is worth the change.

Don't use beta 9.

Tom already removed it from download because it is not working.

Try beta 10 instead.

The only issue on Beta9 was having to manually reset the Samba passwords due to a little known change by the Samba developers. One should upgrade to beta10 instead of running beta9, but it's not like it was causing data loss or segfaults.
