Non-Intel Xeon?

Recommended Posts

I've been spending far more time than I should browsing around eBay, and came across various "non-Intel" Xeons. The "manufacturers" are companies like HP, Lenovo and Dell. I'm assuming that the Xeons are in fact the real deal, and it's just that the processors came from servers manufactured by the companies quoted.

I'm hoping someone can confirm this before I go out and buy something that turns out to be proprietary or non-standard in some way.

There is no such thing as a non Intel Xeon, but you have to be very carful buying CPU's on Ebay. You have to make sure the processor you are buying is the correct one for the socket on your motherboard, that its not an engineering sample and that the seller is reputable, has lots of positive feedback and offers a refund in case the processor doesn't work or is wrong for your board.
