Once I have replaced my existing 5TB parity drive with its 8TB replacement and completed a parity check, how do I reintroduce the old parity drive into the array as just a data drive?

Preclear it, then add it. You can skip the preread part of preclear since you know the drive is good.

Since it's clearly a well-tested drive, you can simply pre-clear it with the -n option, which skips BOTH the pre-read and post-read operations ... takes about 1/4th the time of a full cycle.

 

That assumes you've ADDING it to the array.  If you're simply going to use it to upsize an existing disk, you don't have to do anything ... just do the replacement and it will rebuild fine.

 

 

Yes sorry I should of been more clear, I'll be using it to upsize an existing disk.
