March 4, 201610 yr Hey all, From my research, it seems that the following two methods are preferred based on the forums, if anyone has any experience with either and would like to comment please do. Main data array filesystem: XFS Checksum/monitor for bitrot: Dynamix File Integrity Plugin Any other recommendations? I know BTRFS is suppose to have some of these features built in, but for some reason does not seem stable/to play nice with current versions of unraid? Thanks
March 4, 201610 yr I know BTRFS is suppose to have some of these features built in, but for some reason does not seem stable/to play nice with current versions of unraid? I have a small test server that uses a mix of XFS and BTRFS data disks and it's stable and plays nice with 6.1.8. I think many people are nervous because there's much less accumulated experience of dealing with problems with damaged BTRFS filesystems than with, say, ReiserFS and the recovery tools are not so well developed. There are a few advanced features that aren't fully implemented yet. However the filesystem itself is quite stable and usable.
March 4, 201610 yr A mix of stuff - photographs, music, video, text files, pdfs. It's a partial copy of one of my main servers.
March 4, 201610 yr Biggest thing I would recommend is for the really important files (in my case tax forms) have multiple backups including some off line backups. Everything else I have has been recorded off of OTA/Cable/Satellite or Ripped from DVD/BluRay. So if I loose some of it I can record it again or re-rip it
