Is my data safe?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

i'm very new to unraid and i have a few questions.

i have attached a photo of my current drive setup.

1. I've just added a new drive and although data is being written to it why hasn't the drive been auto balanced? i'm using usershares and high water allocation method.

2. if the drives haven't been balanced is my data still safe if a drive failed?

File balancing across your data drives doesn't matter at all. What matters is you have a Parity drive with a valid parity sync and check done.

unRAID never moves files after they have been written.    Allocation method and Split Level only apply for deciding where new files are going to be written.

Where files are placed does not affect whether they will be protected or not.

High-water should have begun writing to disk2 after 2TB was written to disk1.

I suspect you have a split setting issue preventing this from happening.

As others have said, it makes no difference with regards to data protection.
