HappyChubbs
Hello everyone, After following the post about cheap Xeons I decided to jump on the bandwagon and get access to power far more than I currently need. But it is nice to have that wiggle room. Going to share a small build log. Below is the current setup. Top system is the unRaid is a DS380 case. Bottom system is the Windows 7 server in a Corsair 540. Going to tear both systems apart just to salvage the hard-drives and video card. unRAID (DS380) CPU/Motherboard: ASRock Intel Avoton C2750 RAM: Crucial 16GB Kit ECC Power Supply: SilverStone Technology 500W SFX-L HardDrives: Samsung Evo 840 - 250GB x2 Corsair Force LS - 60GB Western Digital RED - 6TB Seagate - 4TB x4 Windows 7 (540) CPU: Intel i7-930 Motherboard: EVGA FTW3 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 12GB Video Card: EVGA GTX-580 Power Supply: Season Platinum 860W HardDrives: Samsung EVO 830 - 120GB x2 Western Digital Blue - 250GB x2 I was planning on using the power supply but I had an issue with getting a second EPS power connector. These are the new parts that are going into the system. CPU: Intel Xeon e5-2670 x2 CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO x2 Motherboard: ASRock Rack EP2C602-4L/D16 RAM: Hynix 64GB (8x8GB) Registered ECC Power Supply: EVGA 850W P2 Teardown of DS380 Can get a nice view of the board here. Gutted HDDs and SSDs Teardown of 540 Not really much here. Putting it all together CCOOOORRREEESSSS Now time to get the minecraft server on there and everything else. For anyone that folds, what program do you use? Quote Link to comment
sonofdbn
The Asrock mb form factor is SSI-EEB, whereas the Corsair 540 is E-ATX. Did you have any difficulties mounting the mb? Also, how are you squeezing in all those 3.5 inch drives? Quote Link to comment

Also, how are you squeezing in all those 3.5 inch drives? There were not too many issues with mounting. Everything lined up on the left and bottom of the motherboard. For the other sections where the mounts did not align I installed rubber mounts. Mounted the extra drives to the other side of the case. Two are mounted to the back grill. Two are in the 5.25 bay with the Evercool Dual 5.25 to triple 3.5. Quote Link to comment

According to the case specs, it holds only 2 x 3.5 inch drives (and 2 x 5.25 inch). Glad to see the OP found a way to install more. Quote Link to comment
