March 13, 201610 yr I'm still pretty new to unraid, so please excuse my stupidity with this question Let say my unraid server is primarily used as a NAS device (storage, couchpotato, sickbeard, sabnzbd..etc) and is generally on 24/7, while my Windows gaming VM might be on a few times a week for a few hours. I would like to know if there is a way of starting the Windows gaming VM via the unraid server itself and not via the web gui on a different device? Cheers.
March 13, 201610 yr I am not aware of a shell command to start the VM but there may be one. Do you intend to do GPU passthrough for your windows 10 VM? Since UnRaid is primarily managed via the web gui, I am unaware of any other way to start a VM other then through the web gui.
March 13, 201610 yr Author Thanks Ashman70 for your reply. The plan was to run GPU passthrough for the windows 10 VM and use the onboard graphics for the unraid server itself. I think I may have found an answer, in 6.2 beta it includes a boot gui which takes you to webgui but on the unraid server itself, so i believe i can launch the Windows VM from within there, well hopefully
March 14, 201610 yr Other option is to use WOL to organise it for you. I have VM Manager plugin with VM WOL plugin too. Wake On Lan Android App on phone can be used to switch VMs on once you are on the home network. Really very useful for me! Ridiculously easy to setup too.
March 14, 201610 yr I am using also the "Virtual Machine Wake On Lan" plugin from dmacias72 and it works fine. SHIELD TV GameStream is sendig the magic packet and no mobile phone or tablet is needed. Only the game controller in my hand is used
