November 24, 200916 yr I just finished build new unraid with gigabyte GA-GE1M-ES2L mobo. The unraid server connect to linksys wireless router. After typing ifconfig the server did not give me ip address. I checked the cable it is ok. Please help
November 24, 200916 yr If you type ls -l /dev/disk/by-label what do you see? if you type ls /boot do you see the files you loaded from the distribution? if you type lsmod what do you see? If you type grep eth0 /var/log/syslog what do you see? Joe L.

It is very possible your network chipset does not have a driver in unRAID. Have others used this same MB? If so, is the network interface enabled in the BIOS? November 24, 200916 yr Author Yes some one used it. I checked the hardware compatibility. I know it is using realtec chipset. and yes I am enable the network interface in the bios. The network interface light is weird. when I am in the bios it was blinking but when the server booting, it is off? Do you think the flash drive do not have driver for it?
November 24, 200916 yr you could try configuring the interface manually when your unraid server boots from the command line; ifconfig eth0 x.x.x.x netmask 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x = ip address you want to use for your unraid server then try and ping the unraid server from your pc or something similar. for the most part it looks like its a driver issue, altho since you have the ifplugd messages it might not be

Time to post a syslog. Instructions are in the wiki. If you are not using the most current 4.5beta11, do so. Older versions might not support the same chipsets as the newest. Joe L.
November 24, 200916 yr Author Hi joe, I used the latest version (4.5 beta 11) still not help. attached is my syslog. Thank you in advance! I hope my server can online soon... so I can enjoy the beauty of unraid...
November 24, 200916 yr I checked the hardware compatibility. I know it is using realtec chipset. Yes, but is its specific realtek chipset recognized. Realtec makes more than one. and yes I am enable the network interface in the bios. Good. Do you think the flash drive do not have driver for it? I suspect it does not. I did not find any other post using the same exact MB. In fact, using a goole search I found few mentions of it at all. Is there a different model it might be known as? Your best bet might be a cheep Intel network card. Joe L.
November 24, 200916 yr Author Sorry I typed the mo model wrong. It should be Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L . And this is the link of the post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3245.0 This is newegg link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128357 Do you think the mobo is DOA? I doubt that because the network light lid when it start booting the bios and goes off when unraid boot up. I got the mobo from newegg lastweek. Do you think I better replace it with other model/brand? (I really do not want to use add. network card). If I do have to replace it, anybody has suggestion regarding the model? I already have Celeron E1500 2.2GHz LGA 775 and Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 to go with it. So the new mobo need to be able to utilize them. And I kinda want to be in <$50 range - This all my budget for my thk giving give

And I kinda want to be in <$50 range - This all my budget for my thk giving give The very first line in the first post in that thread you linked to says: Just picked up this Motherboard and it comes with an Atheros Gigabit LAN adapter that unraid doesn't recognize. I think it is unlikely anything is wrong with your MB, just that the network chip-set it uses does not have a driver in unRAID. I'm afraid I don't know much about motherboards... can't help you to find one matching your cpu/ram, etc. Easiest might be a cheap network card and plug it into one of the slots in the MB. Send note to [email protected] asking for a driver for the Atheros Gigabit LAN adapter in some future release, assuming the chipset is supported under Linux, or, compile the network driver module yourself in a development Slackware instance. You might be able to do that under VMWare on your current PC. Joe L.
November 24, 200916 yr Author I think the atheros refers to the asus mo that he used before gigabyte. I will try to use network card and see what happen.... Thank You for all your help!!! Bondul
November 25, 200916 yr Author Yap.... The integrated network interface does not work with unraid. Luckily, I found old network card from my old machine. I pop it to the server and give me IP . It is doing parity sync now.... I will also post to the mobo forum to stay away from this mobo. Again Thanks a lot for your help!

Apparently the 2.0 version of that MB uses a different network chipset that the older version of the same motherboard. Many of the reviews on newegg complain about the lack of support under Linux. In fact, the first review that shows says: v2.0 board nic has no linux support and the atheros nic doesn't have linux support Another reviewer wrote: Be warned though (and I think NewEgg should put this somewhere in the Specifications): There are two versions of this board (same model number, but one is marked as v1.x and the other as v2.x on the side of the box and/or on the board itself). Version 1.x integrated NIC works with OSX out of the box; v2.x does NOT because apparently the integrated NIC is not a Realtek chipset. Good thing NICs are a dime a dozen. Glad you are up and running. I think that the newer 2.0 board is using the Aatheros chipset, the older one used a realtec chipset. Joe L.
