Getting "Array Failed Alert" but can't find what is driving it.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Thanks in advance. I have my array of seven (7) drives up and running well but I keep getting "Array Failed" alerts on the management web page.

All is green on the main & dashboard pages and I could not see anything in the logs but it still keeps triggering.

Any ideas what might be driving it?

Cheers

Don’t see anything wrong, there are no SMART reports but this is probably because you’re using an Areca controller, can you post a screenshot of the error your getting?

Cheers, yeah I'll post when I see it again.

OK so this is the error I get (see attached)

I agree with johnnie.black, there's nothing apparently wrong!  Have to wonder if the Areca is confusing it.  Perhaps bonienl, Tom, or Eric will see this, and tell us what is being checked on that Array Health check.  By the way, I've never heard of an "Array failed" error here, so was expecting your pic to show the error coming from the Areca.  You put it in quotes, which made us think it was an exact quote!

One thing wrong, from which I can't conclude anything yet, is that the syslog had been rotated but there's no initial syslog section.  That makes me wonder if the /var/log folder had over-filled previously, possibly causing unusual behavior.  The syslog *is* full of unnecessary stuff.  It looks like you are running the Mover every hour, which puts a lot of entries in the syslog.  And you have it configured to renew the IP lease every hour too, which puts a lot more stuff in the syslog.  Why not change to a static IP?  That would make it a lot cleaner.  And you might check what else is in the /var/log folder.  I suspect some very large files, perhaps logs from other apps and VM's.  There's a way to resize the folder to a larger size.

Hmm yeah I had to remove one of the syslog files from the dump as it was too big to upload.

I moved to a new firewall/router recnetly so hadn't tweaked the DHCP settings. Will extend the lease times.
