First time install -- Dell 2950 Gen 3 with Perc6/i card

Featured Replies

I've been digging through the forums today and I found post about the 6/i but then they start talking about LSI cards and needing to flash to a IT version of the firmware.

The Dell firmware on this card is 1.22.12-0952 and the bios for the card is 2.04.00

I'm sure that's not the latest and I should also flash the system bios to the latest because I can't get the usb to be the default boot device. I have to pick it manually.

I'm just looking to test unraid with this system and decide if its worth buying new hardware for it vs keeping it simple and getting a QNAP [ducks]

thanks,jb

I don't believe the Perc 6i will do JBOD, its a hardware raid controller, so unless there are some SATA ports on the motherboard, and there may be a few, you can't really use it for UnRaid.

Thanks :(

It was just a spare server at work.

Any other option to give unraid a test run?

I'm just worried that I'll buy new hardware for it only to figure out that I can't do remote and mobile backups like I want.

Pretty much any spare desktop PC will work for testing basic functionality. Just be sure any attached hard drives don't contain any needed data.
