So plex is great for music and video but not really great for photos (although usable).  Any other good solutions for accessing a photo library off of my unRAID server?

I know there are a few dockers with that purpose. Maybe try a search within Community Applications.

I used Photoshow for a while .. but never really did much photo browsing. Its web based.

This doesn't really tell us what you are trying to achieve.  Are you looking for a slideshow, search and edit .....?

 

I use Binhex's minidlna docker to serve photos to my digital photoframe.  My TV's also have dlna clients and can run slideshows although the selection capabilities are not as user friendly as the photo frame.

 

For categorising, searching and editing photos I use digikam running on a desktop, accessing the server via nfs.
