i am in the process of building an unraid for my sister and have about (10) 250gb ide drives left over from my conversion to sata. there is still data on them and my question is will this data be able to be read or will i have to transfer all of my photos and vacation videos from my system to hers?

i would love to be able to install the drives and just start it up.

any help would be appreciated.

If they are from an unRAID array, you can install them with their data.  When you do, just assign them and use the button labeled "restore" .  It does not restore data, but is actually a "Set initial disk configuration" button.  (It is really poorly labeled)

The array should NOT ask you to reformat them if they were in your old unRAID array.  If by some chance it shows them as unformatted, stop... do not press the format button, or you will lose your data.
