Good news: you may not have diagnosed your problem correctly. I have the closely related EG31MF-S2, rev2.0 that seemingly uses the same LAN controller (Realtek 8111C), and I have no problems.

 

 

EDIT: the above may not be true! If you have a rev 1.x MB, it is. If you have a rev 2.0 MB, on the other hand, the LAN controller is an AR8131 chip.

 

EDIT2: it would seem that JoeL pinpointed the issue in my previous edit a few hours ago in the thread linked in the OP.
