unRAID Server Release 6.2.0-beta19 Available

Recommended Posts

Having an issue that is only solved by doing a reboot.  Two or three times since updating to 6.2 first 18 now 19, the last two failures 4 days apart, my GUI partially gives out.  It shows that the array is offline while the docker tab shows up correctly, I can still access the files using windows and the dockers still work.  If I try to pull diagnostics from the command line I get:

Warning: file_put_contents(): Only 0 of 34 bytes written, possibly out of free disk space in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/scripts/diagnostics on line 81 (repeated several times indicating different line numbers).  The diagnostics report is eventually produced but every file is empty.

Today I seem to have been lucky enough to pull a diagnostic from the GUI just before the GUI failed which is attached along with a partial system log that I was able to get after the failure from the tools tab which still worked (trying to download resulted in a 404 message).

As an aside when I first boot into unraid if using an attached console and keyboard after a few minutes the USB keyboard fails to respond albeit is still getting power, happens regardless of which port I use on the server.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction appreciated

I think I have found a problem with the Split Level managing when it is set to Manual. (i.e. level 0)

I have a TV share with path names of the form TV/?/Series Name/Season X/ where ? represents a letter (from A-Z).    I control which disks a particular series goes to by manually creating the appropriate letter folder on a particular disk.  This also keeps the series/seasons on a single disk.  With the 6.1.x series this has been working fine.    Since I have moved to 6.2 beta18/19 it appears that the letter X folders are now being automatically created on the incorrect disks (according to the Allocation Method I specified).

I am going to do some more testing to see if I can get more information, but thought I should report this to see if anyone else has seen anything similar.  Also, I have not yet checked to see if series/seasons are being constrained to a single disk like they should be.

It is also possible that at some time I inadvertently changed the Split Level at some point while switching to the beta and there is no underlying problem, but if so I am not sure when :(

LT, is there any plans for support for NICs, and multiple ethernet ports? After dual parity is supported now, that is my biggest complaint about unRAID, I would really love a GUI to manage ports and NICs :)

So you can set up failover, link aggregation, choose which ethernet port you want to use, and maybe even set up vlan (some people have that).

You have done a very good job with this release, keep up the good work!  ;D

I'm not sure exactly where to place this or if it's Beta related or not (only noticed with 6.2.0B18 and now 19)

I have User Shares ("TV" in this case) with Several "Included" Disks (and "None" in Excluded)... When I browse the user Share on Windows 10, not all of the files on all of the Disk shares appear... in fact nothing after Jan 15, 2016.  But if I browse the Disk Share directly ("\\Media\Disk15" for example) I see all of the files and folders that I expect to see in the User Share under a "TV" folder off the root of that disk share.  I don't use the Cache drive on my user shares, and have both SMB/NFS Export to Yes/Public.

I can browse to one of the "included" disk shares manually in Windows Explorer and I see all of the recent files/folders that don't appear in the User Share.  If I browse via the UnRaid console using the "view" explorer looking icon from the Share Tab the files are also not

I originally had "All" disks included and excluded just those not associated with that specific user share and saw the same issue.

No idea where to even start... this affect anything connecting to that user share (specifically Plex).  I've not made any changes to any of my user share settings since installing 6.2B18/19.

I rebooted (after running NFS repair and the log file seems small now, and attached

Metadata corruption in the XFS file system on Disk 9 was discovered, and quickly (less than 9.5 minutes!) filled up the syslog with over 120MB of error messages.  That plus a few other files filled the /var/log folder up, which I *think* (but can't say for sure) probably caused the odd behavior you saw.  See Check Disk File systems and repair Disk 9.  (Start the array in Maintenance Mode, click on Disk 9, remove the -n option and and start the repair.)

You can do that in every version of UnRAID6 since the betas.  Go to the Network settings.  I'm running 802.3.ad bonding on my system, which has two Intel NICs.  It's the first dropdown on the Network settings page...

Ah thanks, I did not know. Sorry  :-[

As far I understand, you can only set up bonding, and not failover, vlan or choose which port you want to use for unRAID?

I dont have multiple ethernet ports/NICs atm, but I did read this post. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=46646.0

You understand wrong.  There's lots of options - balancing, failover, 802.3ad, etc.

I use 802.3ad with the two NICs on my machine, connected to a HP switch.  This gives me both balancing and failover.

I do see your point about being able to configure the different physical NICs, though.  It'd be nice to be able to pass through a NIC to a VM exclusively, which I don't think is possible as UnRAID stands, as it takes control of all NICs itself.

Oh, thanks man! That is awsome :D

Only thing missing is to be able to choose which ethernet port you want to use from a GUI for unRAID, as far I know this is not possible?

Sorry for going OT, going to stop now  ::)

You might be able to do that using the linux 'ifconfig' tool, but I don't know how many ways that would make UnRAID explode.  I don't think it's recommended or indeed possible, but if you're brave...

That is why I wondered if LT are planning on adding support for choosing which ethernet port to use. Should not be that hard I think/hope.

Upgraded to b19 and noticed the following in logs.... Is there anything there I should be concerned about? Since the upgrade my SSD which has the shares, docker img etc mysteriously disappears from UNRAID and I have to power cycle the computer to get it re-recognised in the BIOS again. It was not doing this in in 6.1.9.

Please add your diagnostics zip, and if possible a recent diagnostics zip from v6.1.9 for comparison.

Please see attached. I noticed some more sata related errors this morning.

thank you.

Two different SSD's had interface issues, are on the same controller.  No clue why, but they don't appear to be cable related.  Possibly loose power connectors?  With so many ACPI errors reported, it might be worth checking for a newer BIOS.

An oddity, I noticed that the v6.2 betas have added domains.cfg, which seems to just include the location of the libvirt.img file, which is also included in the original domain.cfg file (note one of them has an additional s).  In other user's diagnostics, they were the same info, that is, the 2 lines in domains.cfg were included in domain.cfg.  In yours, domains.cfg was unchanged, but domain.cfg had a new location on disk1 (/mnt/disk1/system instead of the default /mnt/user/system).  That's probably fine, but I thought I would mention it for Tom or Eric, in case one is an oversight, redundancy, typo in the file name.

Try running make_bootable in Windows7.  Windows 10 didn't allow the make_bootable to run for me, but I was able to run it on a Win 7 OS.

Hi Everyone,

Need a bit of help. After copying the files to a formatted USB , I right clicked make_bootable as Administrator, and when the terminal pops up and I press 'return', it seems to get stuck and never completes. I've tried different USB sticks, rebooted, and still doesn't want to complete the action.

Any ideas?

Thx very much!

It'd be nice to be able to pass through a NIC to a VM exclusively, which I don't think is possible as UnRAID stands, as it takes control of all NICs itself.

It does take control of them but if you put the XML into the VM's XML to pass them through you can see in the log where unRAID disconnects from that NIC and makes it available to the VM when the VM is started.  Once it is passed through unRAID never takes control of the nic again until a reboot so those messages in the log only appear once even if you stop and restart the VM multiple times.

What's up with SAMBA shares in this beta? I am using two VMs (win2012 - Win10) and have a downloads folder located on a SSD shared using 'unassigned devices' plugin.

If I download and save a file to the downloads folder I have to refresh explorer or close it/reopen it to see the file. I also have a very large (120GB) VHD file located on the same share that cannot be opened/mounted unless I first copy it to my C drive on my windows guest. What's going on?

You could try some Client Side Fixes and/or some Server Side Fixes to solve the refresh-issue.

I have som issues with the beta and a VM.

In 6.1.9 I had a Windows 2012 R2 VM (running in Bios mode, since I could not manage to make partitions in UEFI mode), it was running in one disk image, placed on Disk 1.

This image was split in 3 partitions.. one reserved, one for OS and one for data.

It was working fine.

But in 6.2, I deleted this VM, and made a new one.. With UEFI support.. And this time it worked fine

But I made it like this: One image for the OS part, and one image for the data part.

OS disk image is placed in cahe.. and data disk image is placed on Disk 1.

Both works, but when I try to copy data to the data drive, it copies about 2-3 GB, then the speed drops down to 0.. And after a few minutes I get "error 0x8007003B: An unexpected network error has occurred" and my data drive is not accessible..

When I tried to access the data drive in the VM now, the VM hang.

Could not shut it down.. and "Force Stop" did not work either.. Just got this error:

"Execution error

Failed to terminate process 16228 with SIGKILL: Device or resource busy"

But when I refreshed the unRaid UI, the VM was stopped.

And when I try to reboot unRaid, I cannot stop the array.

It gives this messages in the UI:

"Spinning up all drives...Sync filesystems..." and nothing more will happend.. I will have to use the reset or power button.

I halve also tried to connect with "putty" and run the reboot command.. It gives me the "the system is going down for reboot NOW!" message.. but nothing happends.

Is this a bug in 6.2 beta, or is it becuase I have one VM, running on two different Disk images, placed on differnt disks?

I will try to re-install it, just using one Disk image, placed on Cache drive.

So i have had yet again another system hang.

I am now posting my entire system diagnostic as i was not able to get one before the system crashed. i have attached my syslog which was being tailed.

The system crashed at around 12pm it seems so yet again, not a single thing in the syslog to tell me what went wrong. I'm losing faith in this now as i still have yet to get more then 4 days.

I have posts about this issue going back 4 months now on every single version. Multiple diagnostics, multiple syslogs, i was told this should be fixed by making my vms ovmf which is the only 1 i had started this time and still the same thing.

I know its a bank holiday but i seriously need some help on this. I have done everything i have been recommended and told/asked to do and none of it has helped

Sorry bigjme. Your issue is difficult to solve because we can't recreate it.  We are planning another release shortly that may help with some of this.

I am more then happy to run anything on this server at all if it gives you a better idea of the issue, even if i have to give you remote access to the server i honestly don't mind

Any idea when this release could be out? This issue has been with me since 6.1.3 last year so i'm slightly anxious to get it resolved

As i say, it is easter weekend so thank you for your response so quickly jonp

Edit:

So just an an update, the crashes seem to be coming more regularly now. It has been less than 3 hours and i have just had another occur

To give you some insight as to what the vm was doing on the last crash

I am running windows 10 with all power savings turned off - (all power saving is turned off in my bios too)

I was running Blue Iris recording one IP camera to a network share - so it is constantly using cpu, memory, network, and the network shares

I was playing a movie via amazon prime but had left it paused full screen on my display.

The recorder was running from my last post so 3 hours. The video was paused for around 10 minutes on my screen. I came back to my system with no access, the video still paused on the screen but unable to do anything.

No ssh, telnet, or anything like that. The log i had left running on another screen has not picked up anything at all in the last 30 minutes of running so there is literally nothing to go on as to what causes this issue.

The unraid USB is still powered but with no usage light flashes. I have had trouble getting my 750ti to be picked up by any OVMF vms (unrecognized ROM someone found in my logs) so i am more then happy to remove that GPU to see if it is causing any low level system issues (is is not being used currently)

The only other thing i can think of is that there may be a fault with my unraid usb? Just throwing a load of ideas out there for limetech to look over (may rule some things out perhaps?)
