March 20, 201610 yr I have 2 8-port RAID cards (IBM M1015) and several SATA ports on my motherboard. Does anyone know if array writing throughput is faster, or slower, with the parity drive on the SATA port on the motherboard instead of the RAID card? I believe that both the RAID card and the MB port support 6 Gb/s.
March 20, 201610 yr I would think that performance would be marginally faster with the onboard SATA ports, but I don't think it would be noticeable, but this is an assumption.

I believe that both the RAID card and the MB port support 6 Gb/s. I'm in the midst of moving my parity drive off my add-on controllers to my mainboard as well. It would be the only drive on the mainboard for now. Not looking for a real noticeable change, but giving it a try.
March 21, 201610 yr Performance should be similar, I always use onboard for parity mainly for the HDD led, this way shows activity during writes and parity checks.
