lecrote
I just got a deal (I think) from a friend! Antec nine hundred case Asus p5wd2-e (8 sata 2) Pentium D 950 8 gig memory 30$ I Just bought a Power Supply for 45$ My Question that I can't find I Now that cpu is 130W with load but I can't find the idling power consumption? Thanks Link to comment
JorgeB
If power consumption is a concern I would avoid those CPUs, be surprised if you get <100W idling with just board, cpu and a couple of disks. Link to comment
lecrote
So after reading and testing partially... what I want to do with Unraid I want to remove every second spining HD in my 3 computers and: 1- Put users shares on the unraid. EASY one 2- Have a shares to expand the programs Installation/running disk for apps that are not use daily on the 3 computers: Not sure of that one 3- Install plex: In test right now as plugins and have to test as docker no transcoding is required right now 4- Share for media: done so my setup will be asus p5WD2-e premium Pentium d 950 8 gig ram SATA (8 total) 3x SSD 240GB for cache and user and computers installation space 1x 3TB for parity 2x 3 TB + 2TB disk dor data 2x free sata ports for data expansion I'm open to comments regarding every aspects Power is not a concern I'm open to upgrade my CPU/motherboard after the test is done for more performance/power reduction Thanks Dan Link to comment
tdallen
That is a old, slow, power hungry computer. unRAID may run on it, but it won't run well. In particular I would expect unRAID 6 parity checks to be overly slow. You might have better luck with unRAID 5 than unRAID 6 on that older hardware. I would keep the case and sell the DDR2 RAM on eBay. You've already made a profit at that point. Dump the motherboard and CPU and get something more modern. If you could at least put a Quad core CPU on there (see my sig) I might have a different opinion, but I really don't see any upside in that MB/CPU. Link to comment
spylex
With a passmark score of 746, i will agree with the above. At least you have a great case! Link to comment
lecrote
Finaly the cpu motherboard was not working. So now I have an asus P8H61-M LX PLUS R2.0 with Pentium g630 with 8 gig ram My initial setup will have Unraid 1 240Gb ssd cahce disk 3TB parity disk 3TB data disk 2TB data disk Plex with few transcoding I found some cpu for upgrade I7 3770 for 220$ I5 3570 for 160$ I5 3470 for 136$ what's the pro and cons to upgrade from an pentium G630 Is there performance différence in day to day unraid usage other than plex transcoding? Idle power? Load Power! I can figure that one VM? Docker? Others? Thanks Link to comment
