Windows VM "Unable to power on device, stuck in D3"

Featured Replies

Hello,

Having trouble creating any Windows VM's when passing through a AMD 5450.

Everything goes fine, the VM starts the Windows install passing through the video to my monitor, but near the end of the install the screens goes black and I get "No Signal" When I check the VM log it shows the following error:

2016-03-21T19:31:41.205234Z qemu-system-x86_64: vfio: Unable to power on device, stuck in D3

If I stop and start the VM I get the same error. The only way to get past it is to change the Graphics to VNC, then the install picks up where it left off and works fine.

If I try and then change the Graphic back to AMD, then it will work on low res until Windows then tries to install the graphic drivers, then the signal is lost and error appears again.

Note: This card was working great on a Windows 10 VM, but I preferred Windows 7, so deleted that VM and now can not get anything to work (10 or 7).

Any help is appreciated.

Any ideas? Tried messing with various options but no luck.

I tried the Graphics card in a Windows machine and it worked fine, so I know the card is good.

Just bumping this up to see if anyone has any insight into this issue. Would love to get this working :)

This happens with both new VM's and trying to edit current VNC VM's to passthrough the card.

I am getting the same error; however, I think my issue is related to USB passthrough.  Sometimes my VM can see extra USB card, and sometimes it doesn't - very frustrating.
