March 23, 201610 yr I have an odd issue that i've put up with for some months now but wondered if anyone else might have this problem and know of a potential fix? I am passing through my 980ti to a W10 VM and for the most part this works flawlessly except a strange display resolution oddity. The following are the conditions when the issue manifests... I have a 27" Asus and 980ti connected via displayport. 1.) Bootup UNRAID, start the VM, windows 10 logon prompt appears in correct resolution (2160) 2.) With VM already running, shutdown Windows, VM powers off OK. 3.) Start the VM again from UNRAID GUI, windows 10 logon prompt appears in resolution (1080p), checked windows display properties and 2160 is no longer available as resolution! 4.) Restart the VM OR unplug the displayport cable and reconnect it and the resolution is back to 2160! So, the issue is repeatable for me every time. Either by restarting the VM or unplugging and reconnecting the displayport cable I can restore the resolution back to the recommended 2160 res from 1080. Why this issue only occurs after a VM shutdown and susequent startup but never from booting UNRAID from cold and then starting the VM, is a mystery. Any thoughts on what might be wrong here?
March 23, 201610 yr Check your log, any errors there? It might be that its one of those cards that doesn't load its ROM properly. I had this issue with a GT430.
March 23, 201610 yr Author Check your log, any errors there? It might be that its one of those cards that doesn't load its ROM properly. I had this issue with a GT430. it's a 980ti and it has this problem regardless of slot. I am using the card in slot 1 with the rom extracted and specified in the xml to get around the black screen issue. It's just odd that it only happens after a VM shutdown. Restarting the VM does not produce this issue.
March 24, 201610 yr I guess, never shut down? It's an odd one for sure! Maybe post diagnostics here after you've run through the shutdown.

Shutdown the VM, turned off my monitor (Asus PB278Q), started the VM, turned on the monitor - resolution at 2560! Not sure what that proves.
