[Support] binhex - rTorrentVPN

Thanks for this great docker container!

Could someone please explain what the privoxy setting does? I'm currently running this with my PIA account.

What feature would privoxy add?

Kind regards,

Olle

Privoxy will allow you to use that docker as a "proxy" for your Web Browsing on devices on your LAN.  That traffic would pass thru the VPN.  To enable the use of it, you put "yes", and in your Windows/OSX/Linux browser settings, you set a Proxy that you point to your Unraid IP : 8118.

Thanks, works great. Deluge is nice, but definitely prefer rtorrent, especially when it comes to long term seeding of lots of files. Moved everything no problem, with the slight hiccup of the incomplete folder change not sticking.

Could you add tracklabels plugin? It adds tracker based labels to the category panel, very useful.

Re: privoxy, a way I use it is to use Chrome as my primary browser, then firefox as my stuff I want to keep more private browser, which is running through the proxy. It's useful for many applications.

i do like rutorrent/rtorrent, its a very pretty ui and dl speeds for me are significantly higher (although other people say they get the same with deluge). BUT and its a big but for me at least, the cpu usage goes mental whenever you add a torrent and if you attempt to load in multiple torrents then expect rtorrent to crash, this for me isnt acceptable and thus i have gone back to my beloved deluge for now, hoping this gets fixed in a later release of rtorrent :-).

i would be interested to hear your experience with rtorrent, in particular to reliability.

Im glad your making good use of privoxy, privoxy is a very handy bit of code, its very stable and like you mentioned once you have a secure connection then privoxy can be used to get around all sorts of problems inside or even outside of your lan:- isp blocking index sites, privacy from isp prying, and geo ip blocking.

For me, your rTorrentVPN docker is always faster than your DelugeVPN.  I like more the GUI, but honestly, I would like it even more if you add the Flood GUI, that would make it a lot more modern in my opinion.

Thanks for the dockers you maintain, I know it's not an easy task!

The request for flood hasn't gone unnoticed :-) I'm in the middle of some consolidation of build scripts at the moment, so I might get time to take a look at flood after that.

For me there is a delay. I just updated the docker. I can post a log when it happens again.

EDIT: happens right way.

Binhex I've seen your post about configuring sick rage to connect to rutorrent via scgi as well as couch potato and I'm unsure how to use scgi. I want to use scgi so sick rage can manage failed downloads.

have a look at this screenshot, this shows the settings you need to get a connection from sickrage to rtorrent:-

Yeah that's what I meant by your post how to configure. I set mine up that exact way but when I hit the test button it fails. I'm running all your dockers so I'm unsure why it won't connect via scgi I looked at the rtorrent.rc config file and it's bound to 0.0.0.0 and I'm using 192.168.1.24 in the scgi address since I know dockers don't work off localhost between each other.

ok and 192.168.1.24 is your unraid servers ip address right?.

i did not change this over factory - 192.168.1.0/24 and im currently running with VPN set to no now have PIA setup and working. i was going to change to this docker as my permanent and use vpn if i could get this working. Currently my other rutorrent docker is turned off and i have this one running as a test.

apparently i needed to restart sickrage but i got both working now i previously was using http login with another client.

i guess my only other question is the warning about PIA port forwarding in the docker log currently using port 1198 and if my connectable icon in rutorrent will always be red and not a green checkmark

okay i see i had to chose a vpn server that supported port forward think i have everything running great now thank you

Happens straight away for me. See logs below. The errors then repeat a number of times per min.

I have that same error too, and I can't save any settings in my ruTorrent. All other dockers are working correctly. Currently on 6.2.4. I have tried reinstalling my rTorrent but it still does the same thing. This seems to have happened when I did an update of the docker a few days ago and it is currently non functional

To my best knowledge and from everything I have read these messages are purely debug only, they are not errors. What settings are not saving? this could all be due to the fact rutorrent does NOT

modify tTorrent settings.

I well be cranking down the logging which will stop these messages filling the log

It reverts many settings from the GUI back to default everytime I restart the docker, and also loses track of where the torrents were moved to. They are all on pause until I "save as" to the right place without checking the move files box, then I need to recheck the files and then I can start them again. Currently I have to uncheck DHT and Peer everytime, change the port, and also adjust the default download directory after every restart.

It seems like a few settings that were set on first start stay, but some don't. If there is any way I can log the stopping of the docker to see if there are any write error of some sort, that would be great
