Bassically I know what is IPMI but I think I have a mess of concepts.

I'm new to this whole new world of servers (I have a synology)

I have finally opted for a Supermicro X10SAE that hasn't ipmi and a Xeon E3 1246 v3

I will not have direct access to the server, imagine is in a closet, I can go there but will not be the principal computer.

Once unraid is up, do I need IPMI?

If I have a VM do I need IPMI?

If I have a VM (any windows), how do I control / display it?

Do I need a program like team viewer to control the vm?

Xeon E3 1246 v3 has AMT. Is AMT similar to IPMI?

As you can see I have a lot of question !!!

Any help will be greatly apreciated.

Thankyou

Gus

Once unraid is up, do I need IPMI? - Think of IPMI has a server management tool. You can monitor cpu/mobo temps, fan speeds, start/stop/reboot the server, and much more. Maybe the most useful is the java applet that lets you see what the server is doing (like a virtual monitor).

If I have a VM do I need IPMI? - See above. IPMI has nothing to do with a vm.

If I have a VM (any windows), how do I control / display it? - VNC or RDP. Unless you passthrough a graphics card and connect a monitor.

Do I need a program like team viewer to control the vm? You can use a third party, or read above.

Xeon E3 1246 v3 has AMT. Is AMT similar to IPMI? - Not familiar with AMT, but it sounds similar in concept.
