Unraid and Firewire card pass through

Featured Replies

Will Unraid pass through Firewire devices?  I have a firewire card that I need to use for one of my Windows applications and before I make the dive to to switch to unraid, I need to make sure this is at least possible.

Unless someone here have the same card as you (You didn't supply the model) and have tested it, there is no way to tell if it's going to work or not.

You could use the trail version to see if it's possible yourself if no one knows.

How can I test?  I'm new to device pass through for VM's.  Isn't there some kind of settings I'll have to set for the VM to test?

Read this link first http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_6/VM_Management

Then you can read and follow this guide to pass through your FireWire card https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36768.0

Thank you for the links.  Read through both.  2nd link did not have Firewire, but I'm assuming I'd look up the IOMMU groups for the card and I'd have to make sure it isn't apart of the unRAID host IOMMU group, correct?

You basically just pass it through like a GPU using the hostdev tag in point 11b in the second link.

The card needs to be in it's own iommu group for you to pass it through.
