November 29, 200916 yr Am I the only one that starts working on a project at noon but by midnight finds that everything has to be taken apart for a firmware update? (bleepin') Seagate. I slip in a 1T drive that I've been using under windows for months and when the rebuild starts I find that the UDMA_CRC_Error_Count is going through the roof (24k+ in about 10 minutes). an hour of pushing and pulling disks to put it in a windows box to update it - after burning 30 min trying to figure out if a freedos usb bootable would be enough to do the firmware update - and then wondering if the seagate utility will break a fresh win7 install... I realize it's midnight and I'm doing totally stupid (stuff) when I'm a bit tired and frustrated. All in all, it's working - errors aren't climbing anymore but I have to say I never saw these when all seven drives were WD.
November 30, 200916 yr Author This is why you want to check your Seagate's firmware (Mine was SD15) 9QJ1X57C: OK - Seek_Error_Rate is 137634821954 I guess I'm not going to have any idea if seeks go bad in the future.
