Migrate KODI with many Linux background apps to unRaid?

Featured Replies

Current setup:

Ubuntu 14.04

AMD II X6 1090T

Nvidia GPU

4 gig ram

OS HD

2 data drives(movies, TV, etc)

KODI 16.1

Background processes:

Plex Server

MythTV backend(sends HTTP post commands to Win 7 machine to change channels)

Flexget with Deluge torrent server

Linux Peerguardian IP filter

MCE USB IR receiver for KODI

Windows 7 machine:

Eventghost hosting a webpage that sends channel changes to an USB-UIRT IR transmitter to change channels on the PVR STB.

Does unRaid allow certain USB devices to only be assigned only to certain apps?

I could never get the USB-UIRT USB device work in the Linux box.  It could of been because of the MCE USB device.  Weird that I had to make a web page on a Windows 7 machine to change channels for the MythTV PVR.

I want the protection of Raid as I have lost hard drives in the past.

What is my first step to get started with unRaid?

Thanks

Paul

Sounds like everything you want can be easily achieved.

No need for Ubuntu or Win. The following will run on Dockers:

Plex Server

MythTV backend(sends HTTP post commands to Win 7 machine to change channels) (I think, no experience)

Flexget with Deluge torrent server  (I think, no experience)

You can run Kodi as an Openelec VM. Read about it out there; it's awesome! I have 2 physical machines running it connected to each of my TVs. This will be part of the 6.2 release and can be done today. There is a guide on the forum somewhere. Your hardware needs to support virtualization VT-#. You will pass through the GPU and USB IR.

Lots of ways to get started. All depends on how much you need and how much $$ you want to spend. But basically you need to build the machine will all the right components. Many walkthroughs and experiences on the forum.
