Help setting up multiple LAN for increased transfer speed.

Featured Replies

Hello I have onboard LAN and a D-LINK DFE-570TX PCI 4 ports 100mbp/s and a Zyxel ES-1552. I am trying to increase the transfer speed as I only get about 11MB/s. Its there a way I can tell UNraid to use multiple LAN port to transfer the data.

Thanks in advance

For virtually any practical purpose the short answer to your question is no.

Upgrade to gigabit.

Do you think thats why im limited to 11MB/s

Absolutely. 100Mbit/s network connections would max out at roughly 11MB/s as there are 8 bits in a byte.

Upgrade to 10GB.

Upgrading to 10GB would provide NO benefit for writes.

A GB network maxes out at ~ 120MB/s ... which is FAR above what you can achieve writing to a parity-protected array.

But clearly the current limit is simply due to the 100Mb network.  Note that you'll need to upgrade all of the systems involved in your transfers to Gb => the UnRAID server; any systems that access UnRAID; everything that's in the path between them.

If your router doesn't have Gb ports, you can buy an inexpensive Gb switch, and simply attach a router port to the switch, and your other components to the same switch, and you'll get Gb transfers speeds.

Do Gigabit AND an SSD cache (big enough to cover your needs).  I regularly copy large (many GB's) of files and consistently get north of 120MB/S.  VERY happy with performance writing to the server.  Copying from the server I typically get north of 90 MB/S.

I just bought a T-Mobile (ASUS) AC1900 Router.  Performance is amazing.  I actually ended up with two.  The only difference between the T-Mobile AC1900 and the ASUS AC1900 is some circuitry which helps wifi calling protocols to get priority.  If you're interested, I'd make you a deal and help you set it up if you need - just PM me...

What about just using turbo write?

Might be a good substitute for HDD cache, but as everyone else has said, the basic problem is the LAN in this case.

I use a cache drive and get 112MB/s writes over GB Ethernet consistently.
