March 30, 201610 yr Hey, My current Backup looks like this: Plug a Harddrive into a USB adapter, mount it using unassigned Devices Plugin and than use Crashplan to make a local Backup. What i dont like about it? I have to restart the Docker Service every time. Crashplan clearly isnt made for that sort of use. Im having trouble with the plugins more often then id like, i want to get something as nativ as possible. My main Problem has always been that i cant afford a secound server that can hold as many drives as my Main server does, so i need to change my drives once they are done, which is great if you ask me cause i never lose more than the drive currently in use in case of something going realy realy wrong witch power or something. I do have a secound mashine (i3 bases 4GB RAM, i have a windows key i could use) which i could use. First i thought i stay with crashplan but with remote targets, however i dont know if that will work with only one Data drive at the Target... My secound thought was to use the SMB share and "pull" the Data from the server but i havent found a usefull toll that does integrity checks on the files while backing them up AND supports incremtental versions. How do you backup your unraid Servers? Any suggestions what i could do?
April 2, 201610 yr Short of having a second server that holds just as many drives leaves you with the sneaker net type setup you currently have. You can pick up chassis dirt cheap on eBay/craigslist and even through deal threads of other members selling old heat here. Sounds like you have enough drives and you have the components for a backup server, just need the case/chassis. A used case/chassis can cost less that any of your drives, so I would think you can do it. As for what I do, I back up (2) of my 12 bay chassis to (1) 24 bay chassis. Both running unRAID 6.1.9. But I have all of my chassis in a rack so it makes it simple to just open the shared folder from my Windows machine (Windows 10) of each server and literally drag the entire contents over and do not replace/skip and file already present on the backup server.
