March 31, 201610 yr I decided to try Unraid, coming from Freenas, and since the 6.2 allows for 6 drives I installed it, the issue is that 3 of the 6 drives show as unmountable. These drives are known good 3tb WD Red that pass extended SMART test and also I can format with GPARTED and were been use for almost a year on the freenas without any issues. Would like to stick with Unraid as it has a more intuitive GUI compare to what I was using, but the unmountable issue is not helping.
March 31, 201610 yr Community Expert You cannot normally add drives to unRAID that were set up on another system and keep their existing format/data. The first thing that is done when a drive is added is that the partition table is re-written to the standard unRAID expects (this is skipped if the drive is already partitioned as unRAID expects). After a drive has been repartitioned it needs formatting, so the next thing is to select the option to format the drives with an empty file system (default is XFS for data drives). Again this is skipped if the file system type is recognised. Until this has been done the drives will show as unmountable, so have you selected the format option yet? If during normal running a drive suddenly shows as unmountable this normally indicates some sort of file system corruption that needs to be fixed by running the appropriate recovery tool for the format type.
March 31, 201610 yr Author All the drives were clean check and reformatted with gparted also all smart test pass without any errors, these drives are clean with no data. I also tried formatting the drives to xfs with gparted, and everything goes well with no errors, still when I boot unraid and try to create the array is telling me 3 to 4 drives are unmountable, sometimes 3 others 4 as I tried many different things.

March 31, 201610 yr Author I done it every way possible, I let unraid partitioning the drives, with unformatted disks, also tried formatting them first, tried xfs, ext4 ntfs and non formated.still get the unmountable

April 1, 201610 yr Author how long should the formatting take? its been over 6 hours for 3 3tb disk and still saying formating, not sure what the issue is since the disks are good.

April 1, 201610 yr Community Expert how long should the formatting take? its been over 6 hours for 3 3tb disk and still saying formating, not sure what the issue is since the disks are good. it should only take a minute or so. As suggested post rage diagnostics file. The syslog that is included in that will show the format commands being started and ( hopefully) finishing, or indicating the errors.
April 3, 201610 yr Author I finally got it to work, have to use dban to clear all my disks, for some reason gparted wasn't clearing the disks based on what I saw on the diag output, anyway all is good now and thanks for all the help. One possible reason, not 100% certain, but some of the disks were use on freenas and some on synology, which uses different approach to formating their drives in any event all is good now.
