Limiting shares to cache on 1 of 2 cache drives

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

So I've been running the new beta for a little while with my NVMe drive in the cache pool which my vms boot from

With my parity in place my transfer speeds are not as fast as I would like so I want to get a 1tb ssd and add it to my cache pool.

I want my shares to use that cache drive and only that drive without touching my NVMe drive. As I don't have a second drive its a little hard to test and see what will happen.

Is it possible to achieve what I want to do? In short I want to add a second cache drive and allow shares to cache to that drive and only that drive

Sorry if that does not make too much sense or isn't explained properly

Regards,

Jamie

That is not a current capability and as far as I know is not planned.  Difficult to see how it could even be made to work unless multiple cache pools were allowed.

I achieve the same end result by running my VMs off a drive that is not part of the array.  I mount the drive in my 'go' file and unmount it in my 'stop' file so it is always mounted whenever unRAID Is running regardless of the state of the array.  I could probably use the Unassigned Devices plugin to mount the drive instead, but I like being in total control of the process (and I originally set it up before the UD plugin existed)

I had it mounted externally for a while but the beta supports nvme properly now so it made sense to include it that way. It would be interesting to see an option to include/exclude cache devices though.

Guess I will have to find another way :)
