December 3, 200916 yr OK - I have been running Unraid at version 3 for the longest time. It's working, it's stable, there are no hiccups, plainly it works well. It is kind of slow, but it's good enough for me for now. The question: Should I upgrade? I tried in the past to upgrade to 4.3 and it failed miserably. My platform appeared not supported. I am tempted to try again but I would like to know the risks of upgrading. Assuming that nothing goes wrong - what do I really gain to move from V3 to V4.4 (or V4.5b)? If something goes wrong, are there any changes to the disk format, in the sense that I can't go back to V3 to be stable again? What are the risks? Thanks!

To gain more information, I checked your history of posts, and found that you and I have already interacted about this several times! Sorry to hear you are still stuck using the old version, but I do understand. Data safety is paramount. In the primary thread (Network problem) about the problems that have stopped you and others from upgrading to the v4.3 series, there is a final post indicating success with v4.4, and mentions significant performance improvements. I also checked the posts of other affected users, and found that at least 4 were now using v4.4 or later! (Unfortunately, 2 may have switched motherboards, which probably does not count!) That sounds to me very promising, and I really think you should now be able to upgrade successfully, to either v4.4.2 or v4.5-beta12. As well tested and used as the v4.5 betas have been, I can't think of any good reason to upgrade only to v4.4.2, but that is your choice. The latest beta adds even more speed. There are no format changes, so if it does not work (again!), you can return to v3.0 one more time, just the way you did before.
December 4, 200916 yr Author Good to know! Thanks for taking the time to even look in the history of the issue. I have to see that I am impressed you did that. I will give it a go and see how it pans. I'll post my findings back here! Thanks again!
