April 2, 201610 yr Quick, probably simple question. My unraid server has no more free ports or bays, and I am going to start the process of replacing the original small drives (1 TB) with some larger ones. I'd like to preclear my replacement parity drive and data drive before I put them in as replacements. My desktop is an old Ubuntu box (running 12.04). Motherboard won't support > 2 TB. Looking at installing a 2 port PCI sata card that will support the bigger disks. Can I run the preclear script on an Ubuntu box (ie, not a machine running unraid)?
April 2, 201610 yr You might be able to run the slower preclear script on ubuntu. You might not be able to run the faster preclear script on ubuntu since it uses an executable for reading. You should be able to use a second flash drive with trial version of unraid on the other hardware.
April 2, 201610 yr Author im fine with it running slower. i don't really have any other hardware to run it on (all laptops that I can't tie up preclearing).
April 4, 201610 yr Author Yeah, looking at an esata dock. My mb's esata port likely won't support >2 tb, so I'll need to get a cheap esata pcie card. Any I should avoid or lean towards?
